All hail his royal lydianness! Great stuff Chuck. Dug that funky Weather Reportish groove. Nice ideas! Big help hearing how you navigate the I!

Likewise on the ideas in the dim V7 clip!

Bravo.... The I stuff is really nice, doesn't sound like the stock I sounds at all - very cool. I also really love the dim stuff - classic Chuck - tearing it up with some killer lines!

    Thanks.

    Appreciate the good word Les!

Al, yes D major-Ionian but I do stray a little.

Great stuff! Lots of cool stuff in the first clip. I like the pentatonic and lydian stuff as well as the outside line. Great phrasing. 2nd clip was very cool too-I wish it was longer though.
    Great job!

Thanks Jostein, I was thinking of Black Market and the way Joe Z uses pentatonics and his unique way of playing on a major chord. He was something else...The greatest!!!

You catch everything Mike, and thanks buddy. Our ears are the real instrument right? I either use a Carbon Copy and track with it or use the echo plugin from DP in the mix.

    Thanks!

    Hi,
I think Scott Henderson must have picked up a thing or two from Zawinul(after all he played in his band), I have heard him use for instance a c#minor pentatonic over a Dmajor7 chord, it gets that lydian flavor without playing the actual lydian scale. A more open sound.
I am not sure if that's exactly what you did, but what ever it was it sounded great!

Thanks Jostein. I played a little bit of that lydian thing but a lot more of F#m pent and Bm pent as well as some D sym-aug stuff. I kept going back to the F#m pent. I thought I was Joe Z for a couple of bars in the first section. Sounded like a filter was in one of those F# lines, I wish I could figure out how to recreate that (maybe it was just the really old strings ; )

He is an amazing player, period! I would love to hear him play a tele..

Thanks Jack and yes, haven't used anything else since I got the RedPlate!

Appreciated Stephen, there's a lot of melodic development first and most importantly. I was def getting into those min pent patterns tho. F#m and Bm, I was really liking the way that felt. For the D sym aug stuff I was stacking the triads: D F# A#. Then as others have pointed out the lydian approach here and there (C#m pent) but I kept wanting to go back to the F#m pent, those notes felt really good. Had to be careful not to over do it.

    Thanks for listening guys!

    Hi Chuck,

Les' Friday clip kick started a learning process here and he told me to watch your BWB clips on YT which I did and now this. All very helpful and I think I'm actually on my way somewhere. Thanks for helping me along! :D

    Cheers,

No sweat, here's a clip w/out an OD pedal, guitar straight in. MXR carbon copy and Hermida verb in the loop. Vol on 7 Master on 3. You don't need an OD pedal you just need to be able to crank it up a little ; > ) I can't do this at home it would get me evicted (amp is a little monsta) but the zen comes thru at any volume. You can also bypass the tonestack and have a LOT more gain.

    Chuck
