Looking for a good guitar tech/luthier In Los Angeles. Preferably in The Valley.
Roman Rist. Done.
He has quite the client list. Thanks.
'cept Roman lives in Shasta City now. About 10 hours north.
Hmmmm, his website still says Hollywood.
Might be out of my price range anyway, we're talking < $500 guitars at this point.
Eric's Guitar Shop is great. http://www.ericsguitarshop.com/
If you are doing fretwork, Mike Tuttle is the man. http://www.bestfrets.com/flash/index.htm
Roman Rist is great also and he is building me a guitar right now, but he is up north now.
+100 on Michael Tuttle, if he's still taking on repairs (I think he might be focusing on building now).
David Neely..... Right above Mesa Boogie
If I don't do the work on my guitar, I trust Leland at Westwood Music.
Eric's Guitar shop is great - and in the valley.
Thanks for all the leads guys. Eric's Guitar shop looks like it'll work for now. Good prices and Van Nuys is very convenient for me.
Fren Asken is both an excellent tech AND an excellent guitar player.
He's also a TGP member "Frenster" - 310-838-3599
Fren, I hope it's OK for me to post your shop number here.
Paul at True Tone Music in Santa Monica is also excellent ... and busy. Jim Foote at South Bay Music Works - 310-379-5194 - excellent work. Bill Asher w/ Asher Guitars in Marina Del Rey - 310-821-2888, excellent work and restoration work too.
Hope this helps, Dana O.
Thanks, Dana O.
Hey Dana, great to see you at NAMM. Great playing!
How about Toru Nittono?
In the Long Beach area I would recommend World of Strings. They do all string instruments: guitars, bass, violin, chellos...
Noric Renson at Renson Guitar. Almost 20 years for me now!
In the valley, I like Tina Wood. She used to be at the Amp Shop on Ventura Blvd. in Sherman Oaks, I believe, and may still be there.
I live in the area and was thinking about that place. I've read that many people mention her but they seem to get pretty bad reviews online.
If you read the reviews, the ones that are negative say they don't like Gary (owner/manager - he can be prickly for sure), they don't like the parking (yes, it's not good, but go there when they open, it's never been much of a problem for me) and they don't like the amp repairs. I have no exp. with their amp repairs and was not recommending their amp repair person. I was recommending Tina. Check the reviews and you'll find comments like this:
"The only reason I go there is because of Tina. She does the best guitar setups hands down in LA. She sets up all my guitars and I've tried pretty much every guitar tech in this town for the past 20 years. "
"Tina - is known as the Goddess of guitar repair in pro circles. They brought her to Nashville to give repair seminars (I know - they did it through me when they found out I knew her). Nobody does woodwork and frets like Tina."
I just had Dan here based on this post and he was great! On time, good guy, good work. Recommended!
