I'm trying to compile some options for P-90/ish strat sized pickups my strat's bridge position, but I haven't had much luck finding any. I'm primarily looking for something noiseless. So far I only got the Dimarzio VV Solo.

Any others I can look for?

Not noiseless, but very quiet and SUPER toneful.....Pete Biltoft's SP-90's! I have 3 in my old '83 and love them!

Pete's site appears to be down right now, but the link is www.vintagevibeguitars.com

Consider a Fralin SP-43. It works really well in the bridge position of a strat and balances well with the neck & middle pickups. For what it's worth, the SP-43 also works well with the Suhr BPSSC to create a noiseless solution.

I should add that the SP-43 does not sound exactly like a P90. It is some inbetween a typical strat pickup and a P90. Roll of the treble and it fattens up nicely.

I like SP 43s alot. I have them in the treble position of 2 of my Strats. Harmonic Design makes one that is supposed to be nice too.

I'm a big fan of the Harmonic Designs. I've often described the S-90 in my Tele as my "best gear purchase ever".

I've got one of those Fralin steel pole strat pickups, cool pickup.

I've also got the HD S90 and the matching neck pickup in my Tele. I love em.

+1 on the Vintage Vibes SP90s! Have them in a Soloway Swan, and will soon buy a couple more to replace the stock neck and middle pups in my Suhr Classic. Big and bold tones with excellent clarity and definition. What I really love about the neck SP90 in my Swan is that I can crank up the crunch and the sound doesn't get muddy at all . . . can cop great SRV and Hendrix tones when the mood strikes.

+1 on the Harmonic Designs. Not noiseless but they are super quiet for a S/C and really do nail the P90 vibe.

Hi,

Can I suggest the Kinman HX 85 pickups? Got one on my reissue strat..killer tone. BTw according to Kinman the 85 is to refer to the tones it can get which is close to a P90 pickup. HX is for hum cancelling. He's got some patents on his technology :)

Regards,
Andrew

For those using the Vintage Vibe SP90s - are you using the AlNiCo V or Ceramic 8 set? Why did choose the set you did? Thanks.

you'll never get the ass of a p 90, because of the smaller coil form.

That's true. Pete Biltoft does a lot of different pickups using variations on the P90 design and while I really like several of them, none of them end up sounding like a true P90. In the case of the VV SP-90, it doesn't reproduce a P90, but rather a tone of it's own, very rich and thick but with enough high end clarity to work well in a Strat type guitar.

I just emailed Pete and his reply was pretty informative about the pickup and it's a great price too. I'm probably going to order one tommorrow or saturday. Thanks for all of your replies!

For reassurance:

+1 on Pete Biltoft's SP-90. I have one in the bridge, it screams to say the least.
