Hardest things to do in sports, thoughts?
I was having a friendly argument with a friend this morning about which is "harder" baseball or cycling.
I found this list, which included both. I know how much we all love lists...What do you think? http://www.usatoday.com/sports/ten-hardest-splash.htm

MLB vs something like Tour de France?
Cycling no question about it. you get to try to hit a ball a couple times in a couple hours vs taxing your body to 90-100% for days and days.... I would think being the catcher in that cramped position for extended periods of time would be more taxing on the body than any other thing in baseball |

well, considering that the best in the world suceed at hitting a baseball AT BEST 35% of the time, im going to say thats pretty damn hard.
cycling is more exerting, but i think the baseball thing is more difficult. |

Win the Golden Grand Slam in tennis (4 majors plus Olympics). Tour de France is definitely up there as well.

I'm pretty sure I could make some sort of contact with a fastball in a lot less time than it would take to finish the TdeF.

dApples and Oranges. There is the act itself. Riding a bike, not that difficult, hitting a pitch, much more difficult. But there is also the physical exertion. Riding a bike is much more taxing than taking a swing at a ball.
Hitting big league pitching is almost certainly the most difficult, in the sense of the skill involved. Riding a bike does not take that much skill, riding in the Tour, or Giro, or Paris/Roubaix etc, etc., takes an insane amount of conditioning and toughness. As far a sports that non professionals play, I'd say either Golf or Surfing are the most difficult. Golf involves a millisecond with which to manipulate the ball. That's an insane amount of interaction. Surfing is difficult, there is timing, the medium is not natural to humans, and you have to compete to merely do it (just try catching a good wave on a crowded day), and it's intensely physical when you are not sitting out in the water waiting for waves. And all of this is wrapped up in a sport where one tries to take a ride, not on water, but on energy traveling through water. Far and away the toughest sport I have ever partaken in. |

Descending down a mountain pass separates the skilled from the unskilled very quickly.
