Patch tear in speaker?
I have an ampeg v2 with a 4 X 12 cab. I have the orginal paper cone speakers. One of my speakers has a 4 inch rip on the edge and I was wondering if anyone knew of a good way to patch it. I was thinking of perhaps using rubber cement.
Thanks for any help. |

I just saw this repair done on a DVD - Gerald Weber uses paper towl and Elmer's Glue. Does the tear go down the cone, or around the top? If you can get to it from both sides he glued a patch on each side then hit it with some flat black spray paint.
He separates two ply towel and uses one of the plys. |

ok thanks for the tips..I will try it now. I'm assuming I can skip the making it black step as the color shouldn't affect the sound.

Cheesecloth
A little bit of cheesecloth with neoprene wetsuit glue will work and wetsuit repair cement is black. Nice and thin too.

I always thought the rubber cement method was preferable since it doesn't dry hard like elmers. It remains plyable an thus allows the speaker to still move more or less normally (probably more of an issue the bigger the tear is).

I ended up using rubber cement with a strip of coffee filter and it worked really well.

What about tub & tile silicon? You can get this in black for all you gothic bathing types.

I had to repair the surround of a JBL that was cracking from age and use. I contacted Orange County Speaker Repair and they sold me a bottle of a special glue that they use for repairs. It dries clear and is pliable, unlike Elmer's Glue. It worked great. http://www.speakerrepair.com/Merchan...&Category_Code=

I repaired an old Jensen using toilet paper and contact cement, check out the webpage I did on it here.
