Deluxe or Sonic Which way would you go?

I need a Fender amp that will give me great broken cleans and will take OD/Dist pedals VERY well. Want a nice fat tube sound. Will also be used with ext 2x12 cab with main deactivated.

So I narrowed it down to these 2 in my price range (yes I prefer new):

1. Blues Deluxe RI
2. Super-Sonic

Should I be considering others?

P.S. Not playing live. Mostly studio and yes I can crank it! Must be able to get different sounds with the amp using different pedals...

The supersonic is a lot more flexible. The bassman channel gets you a similar sound to the DRRI, but it's much louder. The bassman channel of the Supersonic with Yellow Jackets is pushed Fender sound at its best IMHO. The distortion channel is an added bonus you won't find on the DRRI.

GCDEF: You are comparing the Supersonic with the DRRI (Deluxe reverb RI) but I am interested in the Blues Deluxe. I have never tried a DRRI so I can't understand the reference.

But I gather that you are saying you would get a SS?

In that case, there's no comparison. The SuperSonic is a much better amp.

Even though I sold mine, the SS was a great sounding amp. However, I think the HRD (and therefore the BD) takes pedals very well.

If you are going for clean and then dirt with a pedal I might go BD.

I know you said you prefer new, but a Silverface Princeton Reverb is perfect for what you want to do and is well within your price range. They're pretty easy to find, too.

New, I'd probably go for a good clone over a current production Fender.

one in the emporium for 450 bucks, not mine...

The supersonic looks quite versitile and has an impressive list of features, I think between the two it seems like a better choice for studio work. I have not played a SS so I cant really compare.

Any other new fender amps that could give me a fat, warm broken clean and would take od pedals very well?

On a budget, I'd look at the Blues Junior.

I've not played a DRRI, but they get good reviews and looks like they can be had in the $500-$600 range...

I've had a Supersonic for close to a year now and love it. I have a TS9, but you can dial in the Supersonic so as to not really need it...

I've played the Super-Sonic a few times in the store and I like the general tone but always am surprised by how thin it is even with the bass all the way up. I never get that impression with the Blues Deluxe which has a lot of bass for a 1x12 combo.

Is the SS thin sounding cause I am trying it at .5 volume?

The vibrolux setting on the clean channel is a little thin. The gain channel and the bassman are really fat on mine. There seems to be some variation from amp to amp though.
