finally broke down....carr content!

...and bough a carr mercury in the "caporal" 2-tone color scheme (green and cream). let me say that this amp has made the same kind of impact that my rambler did when i got it...for me, this has got to be one of the nicest sounding low wattage combos

playing @ 2am without bothering anyone is one of the best feelings ever. :RoCkIn

anyone else diggin a mercury?

I was thinking about purchasing a Carr Mercury but wasn't sure how well it performed at the lowest settings for those times when I'm not jamming with friends. I've heard conflicting opinions on the performance of the 1/10 and 1/2 watt settings and I'm not sure of any places nearby that I can try one...so I've semi-committed to the Suhr Badger now (picked up a Swanson 1x12 with a gold). I'm still curious though. How do you feel about the lower settings?

Never played one, heard a Rambler that was pretty impressive. I like that Tolex scheme!

The Mercury can get power tube drive at guitar string volume(i.e. you can hear your strings acoustically over the amp).

perfect description! couldnt have said it better myself. i feel that the 1/2 and 1/10 watt settings are great tone wise. no complaints...the only thing i noticed when switching to those 2 settings is that the amp got......quieter.

You know, if the Mercury really does provide what could be considered "no-compromise" tone at "string volume" (cool term, btw) I need to check one out. They are expensive little buggers though...

I know I should do a search, but with the retro styling can I assume the Mercury is tonally in a vintage camp? As in BF or tweed?

Any Mercury owners ever have problems with losing the tonal versatility when using the 2nd or 3rd boost functions? It seems you're limited to the way the amp is voiced if you use the boosts except for the cut control.

Of the items people point out that would be improvements to the amp: footswitch, external speaker jack and easier to get to speaker jack, and the tone controls for boost settings, that is the one that I do miss.

That said, I still haven't found a better amp for range of tones at all volumes, and if it really mattered I would use my Eq pedal...which I haven't needed. I guess that means it really doesn't matter!

I was shocked when I looked over and saw the Mercury behind Steve. His tone was huge, and he even had headroom for clean stuff.

Agreed. His tone was great and the PA did it's job. The old tape echo unit he used was very cool, too.

Yes Sir Esoteric Pete. The Mercury is a fine amp to have in the low wattage arena. Enjoy
