Eminance Delta Pro-12A

Im getting two of these speakers tommorrow to replace the woofers in my very efficient Infinity 3 way loudspeakers. Ive read stuff about these here being used for guitar amps. I should probably throw one in a 1 x12 cab and check it out before I put them in my stereo speakers? Seems strange to play my guitar thru a woofer. What do you guys think? Bob

They're supposedly an EVM 12L equivalent.
The Thiele ported cab with EV was originally a subwoofer that EV introduced. Mesa simply took the design and tweaked it alittle to fit under their smaller footprint amps.

I have one coming today, hoping it'll be a good replacement for my EVM-12L's. I've read on here that the Eminence has a little stronger upper-mids that the EV's, we'll see. I'm just tired of beating up my EV's anymore on gigs (though they are monsters, they can handle it). I'm just all for seeing if I can find a substitute, especially one that's currently in production unlike the EVM-12L. I'll post my impressions FWIW.

You'd have to try it to know for sure, but I'd put the Delta Pro in your 1x12 and get decent high fidelity speakers like Dynaudio http://www.dynaudiousa.com/ for your Infinity cabs.

I'm testing out a Delta Pro right now in a 1x12 and like it for guitar, but am far from convinced that I'd want it in my home stereo.

By the way, the EVM 12L is not out of production, there are currently two models, the Zakk Wylde 300 watt version and the 200 watt classic.

I didnt see any raw frame speakers at that site. Might have missed them. Also the Infinitys I have are very high SPL(101 db) speakers. Most hifi speakers are in the high 80's /low 90's. About the only low frequency drivers I found that would keep up with them are sound reinforcement drivers. The Delta pro is rated at almost 100db so its a good fit as for as output is concerned. Without actually trying the Delta pro with a crossover network it would be impossible to say how it will work in HI Fi applications. Im betting very well. Before I heard of guys using them for guitar I wouldnt have thought they would do well in that application either! Bob

You didn't miss them...they aren't there! Sorry about that.

Years ago an audiophile friend had a printed list of their compontnts for sale and they were commonly used to ugrade speakers like Advents and EMIs.

They are made in Denmark and are very good drivers. I dont know if they still sell individual raw frame speakers but I would assume that they do even if they aren't listed on the site.

Your SPL issues may of course be a possible deal breaker.

If I find out anything else I'll let you know.

Here's a clip of my Special 130 first with an EVM-12L, then I paused the computer, popped the Delta Pro in, and hit record again.

http://www.speedyshare.com/466804566.html

Same amp settings, same mic placement, no eq in the recording software, just a partscaster strat straight in. I like it so far, but of course gigging with it will tell a lot more. I can hear what people are saying about the upper mids being a little stronger in the Delta Pro, but my EV's are way beyond broken-in, amd this particular Eminence has few hours on it. I also hear (especially in person) a little more lower mids in the EV, giving a little more fatness,.

All in all, my first impression is that an EV user would be happy with it. Sounds good to my ears so far.

Also, my apologies about the playing- I really should have played more open chords/ less busy, but this was just an initial clip for my ears, then I changed my mind and decided to post it because I won't be able to record a proper clip for a week or so.

Thanks! Any info is appreciated. Very little luck finding audiophile grade stuff these days. You used to be able to buy all sorts of high end drivers. I'll upgrade them if I can however they came in a few hours ago and I installed them in the Infinities. All I can say it they sound pretty damn good and are a perfect match output-wise to the crazy "fastglass" neo dome tweeters in these speakers! Much better than the stock woofers which were there weak point -not soundwise but they couldnt keep up with the high end. I put on some Soundgarden and they rock big time! I can feel the thump of the bass drum in my chest. The Infinities arent really audiophile grade speakers but a more critical listening and dialing in with Dark Side of the Moon revealed they reproduce dynamically with good imaging and stay that way to ear damaging levels! Never heard of another hifi speaker that was 101 db efficient. With my trusty old Carver pre amp and power amp its a good thing the tweeters have thermal protection..... I imagine the Deltas still need some break in time too. Honestly Ive got to be careful-my ears will break in before the Delta's -they are ringing right now. Bob

I'm pretty sure the Delta 12 was used in the original Raezers Edge cabs, at least I'm pretty sure that was what was in mine. Like the EV, a very clean and well balanced speaker that can take alot of power. If you like speaker breakup, you'll hate it.

Sound very close in the recordings. The feel, of course, doesn't come across but tonally, they seem very close.
