Question FD2 - Mosfet?

Hello,
I've been using the Fulltone FD2 since 1997. I've got my original unit and I've got one from 4-5 years ago. I have not tried the newer Mosfet units. I'd like to hear from FD2 users who have preferably owned both units or used both at one time or another.

I don't need suggestions concerning other pedals............the FD2 works for me and I'm sticking with it............I'd just like to know how this Mosfet version differs in tone from the original.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks.
Frank

IMO, not side by side, but I just picked up my second FDII and this time a Mosfet.... The manual says that Tone at 12' should be neutral...well I have it at 8' (0) and It's still too bright for me. Maybe mine is broken....

There should be more Bottom end on this one....I dont think so.:MMM

I had a Mosfet version for awhile and have used several regular ones...

People always say that the Mosfet version sounds considerably better than the original, but I think they both sound good, just different. The Mosfet was definitely much brighter...I preferred it in my setup, but preferred the original with my friends (I don't know what it is, but a lot of pedals get muddy with my rig, so I have to crank the tone a lot of times).

If you like the sound of the FD2 in your rig, you probably aren't missing out on much with the Mosfet unless you're yearning for more tone (in my friend's rig, the FD2 bordered on being TOO SHRILL, though, so be careful!)

Yeha the MOSFET can be shrill depending on the amp...

When switchign between normal and mosfet mode, mosfet mode has more growl, bite, and is louder...

Huge +1, everyone says they are the same, no way Jose. The tone of the newer Fulldrives is brittle in comparison. Some will say we'll you have to turn the tone down to compensate, I did that and no it doesn't matter, still not as good.

Go to GC (if you can) and take your old pedal and compare it to a new one.

I agree with what you guys are saying. I didn not like the new FDII Mosfet. Too thin, bright, brittle sounding.

To the original poster, I recommend keeping your old FDII.

Yep. I found the FD2 Mosfet to indeed be shrill through my Fenders. In fact, the word used by bandmates was 'brittle.'

YMMV.

I think as mentioed in another thread the trick is the tone pot. The MOSFET models may have increased presence control in the tone pot to accomodate for the darker amps.

I remember i had an Ashton 30Watt EL34 tube, and i kept the tone at about 2 o clock. Similar tone with the tone below 9 oclock on an AC15 which is much much brighter....
