What is my JCM800 worth?
What's the going rate on a 50watt EL34 '85 JCM800 CSA/2204 w/ metal toggles and vertical inputs?
are these going up in value at all? Thanks |

I think your 2204 is late 70's if it has metal toggles and vertican inputs. Don't know what it's worth though.

JCM 800s for the European and Canadian market came with EL34s and metal toggles.

I know stores in Canada have been selling them at about $1400 for a 2204/2203 JMP model and around $1200 for the JCM 2204/2203 models. Thats used in stores. I dont think the toggle switch is a big factor in value. The main factor is vertical vs. horizontal inputs. The US import model is the same amp without the extra internal fuses and rocker switches and came with 6550 tubes, which can easily be converted to EL34's like the Canadian models, or you can convert it the other way around el34 to 6550 in the Canadian models. KT88's work in these amps too with easy conversion. Tube type is just personal preference.
You can find them cheaper in private deals like craigs list and other sites sell for $700-$800 if your patient enough. i would say $1000 would be the average deal. Clunk

No. Its worth very little. I will take it off your hands if it is in excellent condition and even give you a couple 100$!
![]() Seriously they seem to be going up and up. A few years back 500$. These days anywheres from 800 to 1000+ $ Bob

I hate to say it because I would love to have one but a nice one would go for a minimum of $1K and $1,250.00 wouldn't be out of the question at all.

If ever you are thinking of selling it and determine a price, keep us fellow canadians in the loop! Hard to find these amps in Canada these days I find!

Why are vertical vs. horizontal inputs a factor?

Marshall changed the amp slightly when they introduced horizontal inputs... reduced the number of power filtering capacitors, pots became mounted on the PCB. Many people claim the horizontal input model doesn't have the balls/bottom end and overall tone compared to a vertical input model. Why horizontal inputs? Again, the jacks are PCB mounted.

The other thing that may be unique about the Canadian version is the output and/or power transformer. Marshall supposedly didn't play well with the Canadian Government Electrical people.
