Celestion Sidewinder 150W Score

Ive just come across one of these and was thinking who might have tried or used the Sidewinder in the past?

I vaguely remember the speaker, what were they used in cab wise, anyone know? And are they any good!

Please jump in if you know
thanks,
Sol

The last two I've seen went for very low on Ebay.

Thanks blueswah, Great reviews, I plan to put it in a 1x12 closed back
cab.
I wanted a speaker that will handle a Plexi 100 and lead 50wat tops, keeping things small where space is limited.

I usually use a two amp setup and this 1x12 with Sidewinder plus a little attenuation will pair with a '66 AC30TB combo.

I'll fit the speaker today or tommorow and we'll see how it goes.

Yes I paid for it £20.00 for it, not bad really

Squarehead, I get the impression that the Sidewinder is not amongst your favourite speakers, as an amp man Im interested as to why?

hehhee... No no !!
I think it's a great speaker- actually sounds a little like a huge giant greenback with better bass to my ears. I just haven't seen them go way up in price or anything since they stopped making them.
I do like the speaker tho...

Keith

My first 4x12 was loaded with 4 Sidewinders way back when. I didn't know anything about speakers then so I got the most powerfull ones they made

They were articulate alright, in a very flat sterile kind of way. Extremely harsh, almost metallic sounding overtones that grated on the ears when I cranked it up made me sell the cab a few years later. They just have a certain icepicky upper mid/high end thats not smooth or warm at all IMO.

Now that was a long time ago and I did try them again about 5 years ago. Songbird music in Toronto (RIP) had a Steavens 4x12 (are you listening Keith ?) with all Sidewinders and when I plugged an Uberschall into it, I was instantly reminded why I sold them. Yuck

For a really high wattage speaker I'd take the GK-100 or even an EV over it anyday.
