Boosting your Dirty Little Secret

So now that you guys have your DLS, what are you boosting it with, if you are. I got mine a few days ago, and although i really like the "Rawk" setting as is, a little more would be cool, especially with my Strat & Tele.
I put a compressor & a Direct Drive in front of the DLS, and it wasn't too bad, but I'm thinking maybe just a clean boost or treble boost would be ideal.

One of my favorite setups so far is:

Strat>Germanium Treble Boost>DLS on Rock Gain around 2 o'clock

It just makes low E string runs leap from the fingerboard.

My favorite so far is my BBB07 set to do a treble boost. Screamin' goodness!

Ya, im thinking right along those lines of a treble boost.

Hey Nic, did you and Howard try running any of your own boost pedals in front while testing the DLS? Silver Kiss? SCP? Varioboost? How about the Hyperpak?

I don't remember all we've tried, but the SCP and SCOD both sounded really good hitting the DLS.

Of the stuff I have at home, the '69, Screw Driver, Crispy Cream, and HBOD all sounded great. The Timmy was really nice too.

Question: What's the best fuzz-face style pedal into the DLS for that classic rock sound? Love this pedal!

Its a taste thing, IMO - I have a Ge '69 that sounded fantastic into it, Purple uses a Si one in his CC2 that sounded killer too. I think if you have a particular fuzz that you love it should sound pretty damn good into the DLS - we spent a LOT of time making sure it took fuzzes the right way.

Yeah with the DLS I can actually use my '69 into my mostly Fender amp collection. Sounds rad. Howard has a Roger Mayer fuzz from the mid eighties that just kicks all sorts of tail. We slammed it with SCPs and everything else we make that goes loud. I really like the germanium treble booster best so far.

What transistors are in Howards Roger Mayer fuzz? That video with the strat sounds epic!

That RM is the property of Howard, the co-designer of the DLS and some future pedals in the works. He apparently bought this in 1986 when he was reading the classifieds of a guitar player rag. The ad read, "Do you know this face (Hendrix shot), then you'll know this face. (rocket pic)" Howard has had this thing since then and of all of his fuzz pedals it is REALLY phenomenal. What transistors? Probably AC128s or other unobtanium device from back before the world was left picking through table scraps of leaky and inappropriately gained transistors.

Yup. This was certainly a principle design requirement. Taking fuzzes was actually the catalyst for beginning the DLS project in the first place.
