that second set sorta ends on a downer for me....though I like Crazy Love as a song (not so fond of Groovin'...I'd go with Good Lovin')

I'm guessin' you guys are older like myself (49) but there seem to be a lot of listening songs in there as opposed to dance or party songs.

I'd go see a band that was pulling these off nicely...

I'd drop some of the Neil and add some r&b, but otherwise looks like a couple of fine sets...especially Crazy Love, nice touch.

Right, Good Lovin. That would be my pick too.

Very musician-y. I like it. But that means nothing.

A little heavy on the Neil too.

Not a crowd-pleasing set(s).

Can you really vocally pull off Sail On Sailor?

Yes, those kinds of things always worry me.

Thanks, Steve.

No disrespect intended but I just quit a band because the set list started looking like that. I'm an old guy too but if you're going to hook the audience ya gotta rock their world every now and then. Kind of a Drag? Oh Boy, that's right up there with Brown Eyed Squirrel.

I agree. But I'd do B-E-G before many of these.

Second set: I would close up beat: Move RnR Star/8 miles Hi to the end of the set, from where they are.'Lay lady Lay' should be 'Knockin on Heaven's door'.Otherwise it's a classic rock set. People love 'Brown Eyed Girl'. With respect to the younger 'gig pigs'(LOL),I would try to include some funkier and newer things, unless you're playing for a bunch of 50 year olds.

There's an awful lot of slow/mid-tempo songs in that list.

Ok Guys, thanks for your input.

Some of you liked it, which is disconcerting :-)

I was sent this set by someone interested in starting a group (note: it was made clear that this list was not set in stone or anything).

Those first two "positive" responses got me worried, but at least there's been some opposite views now. Still, alarmingly to me, it's about 50/50.

To me there are a couple of problems with this set:

1. It's all over the place - no coherence - what is Men at Work and Crowded House doing in this set? Pure Prairie League - kind of out there.

2. Too much Neil Young (for me, -3 Neil Young songs in a set are too many)

3. Too many "mid-tempo blah" songs.

4. Listening music is OK in my book, but for me personally, if I want to play "listening" music it's going to be more artistically and technically challenging - Yes, ELP, Steely Dan, etc.

So this is not my set, and it doesn't really inspire me to join this band (which is only a start-up at this point).

I just mainly wanted to know if I'm really off my rocker when I look at a set like this and go "what are they thinking?".

I think some of you are right - 49 year olds playing to 50 year olds might be what they're thinking. Maybe at 41, I'm too young to get it?

Steve
