Marshall-in-a-Box for a Vox ac30cc?

Hi all!
I've recently bought a Vox ac30cc2 and I'm trying to find a good crunchy marshall-in-a-box pedal. Currently, I've got a G2D classic that is fantastic for lower gain marshally goodness but I'm a bit stumped for higher gain. What one would work the best with this amp?

I was thinking a crunchbox would do it, and I'd like to try a Barber Direct Drive or Burn Unit but in NZ, there's no distributor for Barber, and our dollar is complete crap which makes getting reasonably priced pedals very hard.

I have an AC30cc1 with an alnico gold. I'm using a Zvex Box of Rock for that exact purpose. It's working out pretty well so far.

Sorry to get OT, but how does the Gold compare to the stock speaker?

Hmmm.
Pulled the trigger on the DLS for the moment. I had a Catalinbread SCOD which was really cool but had too much gain for my wimpy @ss at the time.
We'll see I guess.

Hey! I appreciate the support. SCOD is a bit much for most folks. Hope you love the DLS!

I'm kind of in your position myself. I use my my old Rat for that sound, but it's more of a fuzz than a distortion. I would check out the wampler plextortion. There's an older version on the HC Forum that's for sale.

Geekmacdaddy BBB. Fantastic pedal with an AC30. Very Marshally end-result.

Totally takes the blanket off your amp, dude.

Every time something new comes out everyone goes nuts over it, I get the sense this post is influenced by that hype. Half the time people play with the new "hot" pedal only to find out how awesome the amp sounds just simply cranked a few months later. That pedal right now happens to be the DLS. Expect to see a lot of DLS's on ebay in the coming weeks.

I do use the BoR to get this marshally sound out of my Vox. It's not perfect, and I don't expect any pedal will make an AC30 sound like a JCM800, Plexi, or whatever. These "marshall in a box" pedals all seem to get the tonal stack right but not the dynamics. If you really want a JCM800 sound, you need a JCM800.

This is just what I've seen objectively. I have nothing for or against zvex or catalinbread as they both make nice products. People seem to want to make overdrive pedals into a voodoo art and all that voodoo sells more pedals that are nearly the same with different pretty boxes.

I actually like the DLS over the BoR, I think both do well. My vox is a 1965, and I am very happy with the sound of the DLS through it. I run an Orange amp as my drity amp, with most of my effects and DLS going to the vox set on cleans.

There is nothing "voodoo" about the DLS. It is just an affordable pedal that sounds really good. In terms of your prediction of an ebay dump. We'll see. Though if the pedal was just hype and no substance, you'd see more of the 500 we've built in the past number of weeks up there already.

I agree about the dynamics... Which is why dynamics was one of our primary focuses. The DLS is a great pedal not voodoo, check it out for yourself.
