John Scofield's tone

I've always liked John Scofield's tone...very musical, horn-like and expressive. Anyone know about his gear?

He's a big user of the famed Pro Co Rat pedal.

I've seen him use Twin Reverbs, a Matchless DC-30 and most recently AC-30's. As previously mentioned the RAT is a big part of his sound.

Great player, one of my favorites. Ibanez AS200 is his main guitar, '81 I believe and basically a high quality MIJ 335 copy. Now Ibanez makes a sig model AS200....used to use Boogies, MkIV I think as mentioned and maybe Mk 1? Every time I've seen him though (only since A Go Go) he's been using AC30s. Actually his website details his gear including a Whammy 1, original RAT, Ibanez CS9 chorus, and I think a looper of some sort. The key is, he keeps the gain on the RAT low and the level up, not getting alot of gain from the RAT itself but using it as more of a boost. Also stays on the bridge pickup most of the time.

Check out Live Three Ways DVD if you haven't seen it, great disc

another key aspect I think, that is ESPECIALLY crucial is his touch.

Yea, you can get the amp and pedals, but Sco' really has a singular way with
his phrasing and dynamics - and I think a lot of the 'tone' comes from that
reality .

rat on low gain setting, bridge pup w/ tone rolled down, and a light touch will get most of it.

Last time I saw him he was playing through a Vicky lo power tweed twin. Best tone I've heard him get, and he always sounds good.
