The Bad Amp Luck Club
I do. I Honestly believe that I have bad amp luck.
Not convinced? Some examples of MY past bad amp luck... 1. My first tube amp was a Fender "The Twin" (80's red knob). Nice amp. It was 1996. The thing had lasted a decade being passed from owner to owner. 3 weeks after I got it literally all 4 power tubes failed. I changed them with the same type of tubes. Within 10 minutes of playing the amp it caught on fire. The board was fried and blackened. I paid $200 to have it rebuilt. Two months later I went into the studio. After an hour of setting up the band is ready to play and the amp completely dies. It just shuts off. I cannot get it working. So after leaving the amp idol for a year or two I decided to use it as a 2x12 cab. Plugged in a new amp with matching ohm rating. The speakers, after one chord mind you, literally disintegrated. 2. When I was 12, I painted a crate 2x12 solid state combo white.. I had it in the driveway waiting to get picked up for practice. I went into the house for a second. My friends mom ran over the thing with her car. It was destroyed.. She said them amp blended in with the background because it was white and it was winter. 3. Back in the day, my grandfather gave me an old solid state "Lafayette" head and cab. He used the amp regularly but just replaced wit with a roland amp. He had it since the 60's. It was 1994. He came over and set it all up for me. I was SIKED. It was mine! He played it for about 30 minutes and left. It sounded good as ever. 3 days later I come home after school and plug it in. The power light started flashing and the thing fizzled out. Completely done. I think I cried. 4. Epiphone Valve Jr's. People love em. So Far I hove bought three of them. I've had to return EVERY SINGE ONE because of a sudden inactive volume control and zero output. The same problem with three amps. All brand new from GC. I no longer have one. 5. In the studio with a JCM 900. The reverb tank well... tanks. Then the fuze blows. Never had a problem before. Take a drive to home depot get a few new fuses. Blows them all. Had to record with a solid state marshall. The recording sucked. No, my name is not Damien! And yes...I understand ohms law. Anyone else share my dismal luck with amps? |
