Fender CS Strat plus nice amp or Boutique Strat?

I've been going back in forth in my mind between buying a $1600 used Fender CS Strat, which would leave me $1400 left over for an amp I want (Victoria Regal II or a host of others in that range) or using the whole $3,000 to order a strat customized to my specs from a boutique builder.

I've never ordered a guitar custom-made for me before, though I have owned boutique guitars (from small shops such as Briggs and bigger ones such as Tom Anderson and Suhr).

I have one amp right now, a Reinhardt Titan, it does Classic Rock, Marshall-y, goes well with my LP. I want to eventually buy an amp in the Fender-sound range to go with single coils, but it will take me maybe 2 years or so to set aside enough cash to buy an amp IF I buy the boutique strat. On the other hand, right now, I could buy both a Fender custom shop strat and the amp, and I could be hearing that Fender chime through single coils for the next two years.

[I well know that I could buy a Fender Reissue Amp for much cheaper, but I was A/B'ing a DRRI against a Fargen Blackbird recently, and IMO there was a considerable difference.]

What would you do? (I'm posting this on the boutique maker board as well to see how each board votes).

Ever since I got my Anderson Cobra, I never want a production guitar again.

If you want fantastic black face cleans and lush reverb, buy this http://www.thegearpage.net/board/sho...ighlight=gries

Then buy the $1,600.00 Strat and use the $100.00 you have left and take your girl to dinner. You won't be sorry on any level.

EDIT: With the master on the Gries, you'll get some sweet crunch, too.
