amp and cabinet mismatch

I have a 16 Ohm cab; can I connect an 8 Ohm output of an amp to this cab?

It depends on the amp. Old Fenders can handle a mismatch to 100% with no real problem some amps can't. What have you got?

the cab is a Heritage, loaded with Blue Alnicos.

the amp I usually use is a Heritage Brighton II (no problem there, of course); for a studio job, I might connect a Boogie Nomad and a Hughes & Kettner Switchblade to it. the Boogie has only got an 8Ohm output, not sure about the H&K.

You could re-wire the cab, is it 4x or 2x?

it's a 2x12", and I'm sure there is a reason it's wired as it is, so I'd rather not re-wire anything here.

is the mismatch a problem? I know it works in one direction, either the amp or cab can have a higher resistance. not sure which way though.
