Using an Avatar Partial Open Back 2x12 for Metal?

What do you guys think about using an Avatar Partial Open Back 2x12 with Vintage 30's with my Mark V for heavier music?

I know that the closed back is the popular way but its too directional.

It'll work for metal just fine. I had my Bruno Leadman 100 (high gain head) pushing a G212H open back and it sounded great. Mind you, I also had it pushing a G212H closed back and it too sounded great!

I have always preferred closed-back cabs for metal. It's harder to get a tighter, punchier "chugga-chugga" from an open-back cab.

I'm answering this assuming you're playing with a live band.

Generally, I'd say "no" to open back but those ovals on the Avatars are pretty small. Also, if you're able to push your cab close to the wall you're in good shape.

More importantly, I'd rather have one with two V30s so you're on the right track there. A lot of people order the Avatars with one V30 and one G12H30. Just personal preference for tight modern high gain sounds.

Oh yeah, while you're at it, make it a 4x12. DOH!
