NOGD New Old Guitar Day-'67 Telecaster

This guitar has been floating between friends since it was purchased new in '67. My dear friend Will picked it up at Smith Music in Spartanburg, SC and promptly sanded off the blonde finish. Years later he changed the tuners to Schaller mini's and after a decade or so, sold it to my other friend Tom.

Tom played the daylights out of it with such notable bands as "The Abuse featuring Cliff Face," "The Attack Penguins" and the ever popular "Hung Republicans!" And yes, I was a co-conspirator!

I sold Tom my '67 Pro Reverb for $300 in the early 80's when I started traveling working in television. It sat in his attic for ten years before he sold it back, and for the tidy sum of $300. So I borrowed what was left of that old Tele, and went to work having it restored as a symbol of my appreciation.

The neck needed a refret and the tuner had done some damage. The pickups were nothing more than remnants and there was mold under the neck cap. So I sold the neck and the back plate, and the bridge which was mostly rust and had enough to install Texas Specials, a new bridge with compensated brass saddles, and a four way switch as the original was shot. I found a genuine Fender replacement neck and a pickguard and shipped it to Jack Gretz at Magdon Music, who assembled it and shot the top coat of tinted something or other and made it look great!

I gave to my friend in 1996-97. It has sat in the case all this time, complete with the velvet cover for the replacement neck, untouched. He brought it to me today! The "b" string was out of tune. That's it!

I now have a '67 Pro Reverb and a '67 Telecaster!

I love my friends!!!!
