Extension cab with attenuator?

The way my band sets up I am at stage right, with my amp behind me. I usually turn my amp to fire across the stage. But sometimes the guys at the other end of the stage can't hear me, especially the other guitar player, so I turn up. but then it's too loud for me. I was thinking of running an extension cab (which I've always wanted to do anyway) to the other side of the stage. I could adjust the volume without the attenuator, or add the attenuator and let the guys at at the other end of the stage adjust it.

Anyone do this? Is it bad for my amp? I'm running a MusicMan 210 RD combo, and a 12" extension cab would be sweet, imo.
