Lunch with the amigos
Had a pretty interesting day for a work day.
I have known Jesus and his crew for some years as our building manager and in the last two weeks moving our company he has assisted as usual in the furniture bit. We started talking food and such and he shared some lunches with me with some great salsas and the hottest guacamole I have ever tasted. I have never had hot guacamole and we talked at length about that. Also, pico with avocado in it. I have never seen that. I shared bbq brisket and carolina style sauces. Meat was a hit; sauce not so much. Anyway, we all had to work today finishing up so we decided to have a cookout in the back since a big grill was one of the items moving. Excellent. Jesus did carne asada and costillas which are flanken cut ribs like bulgogi if you know Korean dishes. The crazy salsa guy made salsa of course, another guy make pico, another got drinks and tortillas. I made barracho beans. We had a great end to the day and project and the guys even liked my beans. At least, Flanco did as he ate most of them the guappo. |

I had had the hot guac either, ditto with the pico with avocado in it. They are from Mexico City and when I asked if it was regional they said no it depended on your family. And it was HOT. You could not taste the avocado which, personally, I like. I am not sure if what they said was true or not. My friend Marina is from the Acapulco area and she showed me how to cook some similar things and they were remarkably unhot. She does not like spice and her husband from another close region was the same.
But, Jesus and crew were adamant and that our restaurants had it wrong. Go figure. No lock por favor. |

Sounds good.
Every day here is like that..we share food from our homes and make potluck out of every meal. Not so much Mexican (Rats...), more Cuban, Argentinan, Haitian, Dominican, Puerto Rican, and ... vegetarian (moi). Cool. DS
