cabs - open vs closed 1x12 vs 2x12

Going out to GC today to look at cabs. Questions are - (1) What are advantages and disadvantages of open vs closed cabs? (2) Kind of the same question as to 1x12 vs 2/12; here though what I am looking for is whether the 2x12 will give me better sound quality than the 1x12; not looking for high volume, just better sound. Any disadvantage with going to the 2x12 - other than price?

Open 1x12 - most portable, good sound dispersion

Closed 1x12 - better and tighter bass but more directional/beamy.

2x12 - more volume but less portable

Pretty much the obvious.

I have a Mesa Thiele ported 1x12 and it's quite heavy. So heavy in fact that I'd just as soon take a slightly heavier 2x12 with casters.
