Ashdown Solid State amp "surging" problem...Help, pls..

I have a small practice amp 40watts and solid state.
It's an Ashdown All Access series guitar amp. It's a great little jazz guitar practice amp...

Lately, the amp has been making an intermittent "surging" sound with a harsh cracking sound at the end of the surge. I opened it up and replaced 2 fuses but that hasn't helped.

Could the fix be something simple I haven't thought of? This amp is a few years old and discontinued...

Anybody have a similar problem like this, or know what the problem is?

the first place I'd look is the input jack and it's solder joints on the board and then the rest of the solder joints (especially the resistors, usually wirewound, in the power section). Does the amp have an effects loop? Check the jacks in the loop. A headphone jack? Check that. Does it do the same through a separate speaker cab?

Grab the Jack Darr book (the full version) and go through the troubleshooting section. Do signal tracing and isolate the specific section of the amp where the problem is occurring.

Check the thermistor that is right after the fuse. If that is getting wonky, which they tend to do, that could be it right there.

Adam, you've been working too hard! Ashdown solid states!?

The tube models are plenty for me (I sometimes have nightmares about Peacemakers <G>)!
