'fraid so.

They were good enough amps, just didn't seem to catch on. Of all the sounds they could get, I liked the high-gain w/ a boost. It could get fairly heavy.

I think it was FastRedPonyCar who had some YT vids of it running that way.

Interesting I found the Cleans to be the best part and the tone got worse as the gain was increased. For me the high gains were too ratty, fuzzy and loose.

Try it with a Tube Screamer or Bad Monkey set for mostly clean boost.

I gotta say, I was impressed with it run that way.

The DSLs are far better.

VMs were very bad sounding amps IMO.

The JVM is the best "new" amp Marshall has done.

There are no similarities between the Vintage Modern and a DSL. Not in tone or layout.

What I don't understand is why Marshall can't buy a couple of popular hot-rodded Marshall type amps and try to learn a thing or two about how to build a hot-rodded Marshall from them....

No, the VM is not discontinued. Thery are only going to be available in black instead of purple. The VM is definitely not a repackaged DSL. The VM is an awesome amp that probably didn't catch on because it is only one channel. But everyone thought is was two channels. Also, you have to really get to know the amp to get a great sound out of it. The EQ works different than any other amp. You have to get the right mix of Body and Detail.

Anyways, I love my VM and so does Slash, Robin Trower, Paul Gilbert, etc., etc....

HORRIBLE amp. I like 1 channel amps, this thing was/is garbage. Marshall is not something I would buy new, or anything they have made in years.

That's why Slash, Robin Trower, and Paul Gilbert use them. Even Joe Bonamassa has some as backup amps to his Silver Jubilees. Jeff Beck has even used one.

These amps are incredible. Most people didn't like them because 1. you have to turn them up and 2. because they are unforgiving.

You really have to be able to play well tho make them sound good.
