Fender Cyber Twin Problem

Just came back from a friend who has a Cyber Twin. He recently got a Digitech JML2 and I told him he should put the looper inside the Cyber Twin effects loop so he can record whatever he's playing with effects. After connecting everything we ran into a serious snag with these amps.

It seems that when you play a backing track (using the looper) the only way to get it to sound at a proper volume is to play your guitar. As soon as you stop playing the backing track drops in volume as well. It's like the amp is choosing not to play whatever is coming from the effects loop when the main guitar is not producing any sound. I have looked online and in the manual but can't really find a setting to change this behavior. Does anyone have any experience with these amps and know if this is possible?

Weird. Is there some sort of noise gate being used on that preset? B/C the noise gate might use the input signal to trigger it and open and shut everything off at the output.
Not really knowing much about the Cyber Twin, this is only a guess.
Edit: The Cyber Twin DOES have a noise gate. I'd try disabling it and seeing if that solves your problem. I'd bet the gate would want to silence noise from effects in its loop as well.
