Jamey Johnson... any fans? :)

I'm a huge fan of Jamey Johnson's songwriting and performing. That voice, those words, it's all there for me.

That's what talent will do for you: most of us will never get a shot at stardom... he's had two already. And to think that he almost threw it all away. I'm glad he was able to get over his demons enough to make the most of that second shot.

I suppose it doesn't hurt either when George Strait covers your tune

BTW, so much for those who think that traditional country is dead. Sure, the man wrote that Bedonka Donk song, or at least co-wrote it, but if you get past that, the rest of his catalogue is stellar, including his choice of covers.

The CMT Crossroads episode with Johnson and Shooter Jennings was pure gold also. I'd love to hang out with those two and write a couple of songs, or just shoot the bull

On a completely separated note, interesting change in looks for the man. In his first career, this is what he looked like:

This is Jamey Johnson now:

So anyway, are there any Jamey Johnson fans here?

His new album is coming out...

Yeah, it would be hard to be a "traditional country music" fan and not like Jamey Johnson....which I do, although my musical tastes cover alot of ground. Jamey's a very talented writer and singer. His "new look" is more in the outlaw country flavor!

When I first heard "In Color" a couple years ago, I thought "WOW! This is the best traditional country song I've heard in a LOOOONG time!" I dig him.

Love covering his songs. He is a great and timeless songwriter who seems to be the real deal.
I am rooting very hard for his commercial solo sucess as I would hope that he might be a huge influence on the future of modern country and bend the curve from the future that looks like Taylor Swift and Rascal Flatts wannabes.

I belive Fred Mandel added his magic 'jazz hands' on keys to the new record. Fred was playing with Philip Sayce throughout the past couple of years. Can't wait to hear his contribution...

Winning 4 consecutive cups is unprecedented.

I also cover a ton of his songs live, from The Lonesome Song to In Color, not forgetting "High Cost of Living", Women, Somewhere between Jennings and Jones, etc...

Steve Earle did it, too:

I don't think anyone "wants" to get fat, it just kind of happens.

He went through a marriage or two I think.

Doesn't his success fly in the face of the internet country critics who say it's all about What You Look Like?

Here is a fat dude with a homeless beard having hit singles! How?

I'm rooting for him also. My good friend produced his record. His guitar player Jason is a friend also. He has some great people around him and is one of the best songwriters in nashville.

Listening to "The Guitar Song" again this morning for the first time in a month or so. Thought I'd resurrect this thread.

Can't Cash My Checks has to be my favorite song. Love the harmony guitar leads and the long build-up outro. Not to mention, being able to hear an amp buzz through most of the song

That is the magic of Dave Cobb. He is one of the most talented producers out there. In addition to doing all of the Shooter Jennings records, he is doing Phil Sayce's record in a couple of weeks.
