Repairing a paper surround - tips?
I recently realized that the only thing wrong with my old Jensen Ceramic driver I removed from my old Ampeg amp is that the paper surround is in tatters. Otherwise it seems okay. I've looked around on the net, and there seem to be several sources for kits to replace foam surrounds, but no mention of paper. The foam kits are also a little pricey. I'd like to repair this myself at a reasonable price and do a good job, and it would be nice to use paper to keep it somewhat original looking. Any suggestions?

Hi Doc!
Seems like I've seen Jensen (NOS) cones on eBay, but if you're replacing the entire thing, that might be quite a chore. I seem to recall Weber's site having some tips on this, so you might look there. If your current cone is repairable/patchable, you can use several layers of tissue paper applied with an Elmer's/water solution. Mike

Kinda lost track of this thread. Thanks for the response Mike - I see our old Concert thread is still hangin' in there!
I'll have to give this a bit of thought. If no one presents any more elegant solutions I might find some grey colored construction paper and try making patches with that along with using the remaining surround and some glue. Sonically I guess the best plan is to just get a foam surround kit and use that, but as I have no burning need for this speaker currently and dozens of other projects, I may just sit on it a while longer.

Paper surrounds...an item newly on my to do list! Just took delivery of a pair of 1924 Radiola 12" speakers with tattered paper flotation rings. No idea how to fix 'em, and I figure the boys at Weber would get a kick out of seeing them, so I gotta run 'em down to Kokomo here sometime soon. I'll let you know if I end up learning something relevant.
--Ray Amen on the Concert thread...what a gold mine that thing is, eh?
