Delay without modulation ?

Are all delay pedals now only available with a modulation setting? I tried a EHX memory Toy a while ago and didn't like it, I prefer my chorus pedal. I rather invest in a better sounding delay than one one all kinds of bells and whistles.

One other thing I didn't like about the MT was that the mix knob completely removes the dry signal when fully open. I prefer one where the wet/dry signals are each 50% when fully open.

Any recommendations ?

Try a T-REX Replica. Simple layout, easy to tailor, tap tempo, phenomenal delay tones.

How much delay time do you need?

Maybe a BOSS DD-3 would work for you then?

BINGO!

also, the Ibanez DE-7 is pretty awesome and only $70 new.

the "echo" mode is pretty nice and delay time tops out at 2400ms, too.

neither mode is as pingy as a DD-3, tho i like and use a DD-3 for some things as well.

And to get an idea of what sounds I like. I recently watched the movie Dead Man (Jim Jarmusch starring Johnny Depp - highly recommended, BTW), and Neil Young playes the soundtrack which blew me away. On several parts you can clearly hear a delay. I did some searching, and all I found was that 'he uses a delay pedal'. But yeah, those kind of sounds is what I am looking for.

edit: Doug Pettibone is also a favorite who uses a delay to create what I think are great sounds

As an FYI, when I saw Doug Pettibone last year with Lucinda Willimas he was using a Line 6 DL4...

Just to clarify, you want a delay which doesn't allow getting to 100% wet, only 50% wet, and which has no option for delay modulation. Is that correct?

Well, regarding the % wet/dry, I just don't want 100% wet, I always would like to be able to hear the original signal. No idea how that works out in % percentage numbers.

And yes, no modulation if possible.

Any of the Boss "DD" series pedals should work.

What's your budget like? A T-Rex Replica can be had for about US$275 "used" if you look around enough. I have one (bought it used), and it does exactly what you're looking for. I know, because I'm with you - I don't go in for a bunch of bells and whistles on a delay either.

Basically with the Modulation thing, at least on all the delay pedals I've seen and tried, it can be turned off (or completely turned back) if you don't want to use it. But don't let the inclusion of modulation instantly turn you off of a pedal completely, though. For example, based on what others have said I'm sure the MXR Carbon Copy is a great delay pedal, whether its Modulation is switched on or not.

I'll look at the MXR CC again, I kinda dismissed it since it seemd similar to the EHX MT, which I didn't like at all.

I don't really understand why this is an issue. If it's 100% wet with the knob all the way up, and you want 50% wet, why don't you put the knob at 50%?

My thoughts exactly, because at least they you have the option of going 100% if you ever need it - pedals that have the 'level' instead of the 'mix' don't give you that option. This is especially a problem on my digidelay with it's reverse setting - what's the piont of playing backwards solos if you can still hear the dry signal
