Who here has peered under the hood of the Boiling Point?

And what did you see?

I'm curious about this circuit... where it derives and how closely it resembles others that came before it. Or if it's something more original in any way.

Ha, theres a good story.
i bought an inventobox right? i had a rockbox, and i thought "HEY, the ic chip is socketed! ill take it out and put it in the inventobox for kicks" (just to see if it fit, literally)
i ended up putting it back in the rockbox the wrong way and frying the chip. oh well. really neat circuit though

It's fairly well established that the Rockbox BP is a nicely tweaked Tubescreamer. The bass boost switch selects alternate capacitors off the opamp, thus allowing for the stock sound and the more bass/less mid hump tone, while the other switch selects between various clipping diode/no diode or cleaner boost options.
It's a very nice pedal, but then, so are all nice tubescreamers used in the right application.
Those swirls are awesome, though!
