Question I need a Compressor!!! Update

Hey guys, I had a modded cs-3 for a while but I am giving it up to someone in need of one.

I would like to spend from$125 to $200.

Comped guitar sounds I like...
Mike Campbell, The Edge, Eric Johnson, David Gilmour

I'm looking at...
Keely 4knob
cmatmods signa comp or Ross clone
byoc 5 knob comp kit

Any other suggestions?

(I ended up with a CMATMODS Signa Comp... But suggestions are still welcome for others who are seeking.) Still getting to know the Signa Comp, so my choice may or may not change. Anyone for the Anologman Bi comp?
UPDATE ( Still Loving the signa comp! My tone has never been better!) thanks chad!

What did you like/dislike about the CS-3?

Others to research and consider:
Maxon CP-101, Diamond Comp for ultra transparent sustain

Strymon OB.1, Pigtronix Philosopher's Tone, Wampler Ego are also well regarded

tech generalizations:
"opto" circuits are cleaner, quieter, less squish, more subtle
"op-amp" circuits get squishier and add more character, but can be noisier

comps often benefit from an isolated power source

I liked my modded cs-3 but would like to give another comp a try. I figure it pretty easy to go back being how cheap you can get them and a mod kit for if things did'nt work out.

LOVED my Keeley, but used it so subtly that I let it go. It's awesome and versatile. But I'm totally happy with the Tube Comp built-in to the HD 500.

Look for a used Mad Professor Forest Green

I have a love/hate relationship with compressors - I love them so much that I overuse them and eventually have to kick them off my board.

Having said that, the MP FG is seriously good. In sustain mode, it is as transparent as they come. My second choice is the compressor in the Visual Sounds Route 66, except that VS's active buffers screw with every other pedal on my board.

Love my Keeley 2 knob... simple and to the point. Sounds great!

I also like the Diamond Compressor and the one from T-Rex. Both are solid compressors.

I've heard really good things about the JHS compressor as well. Haven't tried one yet however.

My fave is my current FX Engineering Mirage. I've had Tone Press, Keeley, A.M. Bi-Comp, Guyatone and Boss.

If you like Comps to tighten your sound and leave as an "always on" pedal... go with an opto compressor. I love the BJF - PGC but it's the spendiest pedal ive ever kept. But i always have it on and it's gotta work with everything... so I spent $$$ on the one that worked the best for me. Opto's are more like a studio effect than a tone squasher and usually react better with other effects. Here's a few i really liked in your range

Strymon
Mad Prof FGC
Mirage

... lot of great comps out there!

Well after checking into all the pedals you guys suggested...
Loved the keeley (too pricey for me even used)
Mad pro was nice as well (fell into the keeley cat.)
Diamond (size)
JHS (Love his stuff!!!) but...
I went with the cmatmods deluxe signa comp 4 knober.

It seemed to have the features I wanted and for the price it fit the bill.

I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

Thanks again!

Isn't Stigtronics supposed to have a good compressor?

Either a Boss CS-2 or a Demeter Compulator.
