That is a bit strange. Maybe because it was just about the least interesting Oscar telecast ever. The best thing I can say about it was that it almost ended on schedule, and that is only a compliment in as much as it was damn boring as an event.

Removing the lifetime achievement recipients (Jean Luc Godard, Eli Wallach, Kevin Brownlow) and Thalberg Award winner(Francis Ford Coppola) from a real spot in the broadcast (one with actual speeches and acknowledgement of their contributions to the industry and art form) strikes me as the height of lame concessions to the stupidity of modern viewers (who are unlikely to know these "older" film people). I'm happy that they have a dinner for them, but come on, slot them in to the telecast in a way other than just walking them out on stage momentarily.

It also bothers me that they play off acceptance speeches that go over on time except for in the major categories. It is often the case in the other categories that there is more than once recipient, and it seems to me that each person should be alloted the same amount of time, and also that the time alloted should not start to toll until the person(s) reaches the stage. Documentary, short film, and foreign language film recipients often need to traipse a long distant to even make the stage.

The golden era of hollywood is definately over. Now it's just a bunch of overrated actors. They should have got Ricky Jarvis for this show too. I mean Jeff Bridges gets nominated every year now for best actor?? Might as well nominate the guy at the local bait shop.

This was probably one of the best movie years of all time actually....

It's just that the oscars are inherently boring.

Interesting. Is that more related to international cinema, or based primarily on Hollywood product (and related American films)?

I'm genuinely curious as to what films or film movements you think rate 2010 so highly in the history of the medium. I mean, top five is getting up there in the 1939 zone (the annus mirabilis of film), which I have a hard time imagining given the recent crops of films.

1994 is widely regarded as the best film year in history (obviously on the more Hollywood geared, mainland front), which is really the only measurable one, anyway.
