3-4 Pedals for Modern Country...

In the style of Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, Dierks Bentley, Jason Aldean, Big & Rich, etc.

I already have a Keeley AD9, Keeley TS9DX Flexi 4x2, and an RC Booster but I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks!

maybe an old boss dd2 and a form of compression like a 2 knob keeley or a used boss unit. What amps and guitars you using?

Thanks for the help. I'm new to gigging with this style of music but I'm really excited about it! I figured I'd need a compressor of some sort. I do want to keep my pedal setup really simple so I can just play.

I'll be using a Matchless Nighthawk 1x12 combo and a La Cabronita build with a TV Jones Powertron or a P90 (haven't decided which type of pickup yet...probably a Powertron though.)

Can you elaborate on the Paisley Drive? Is it really touch sensitive? I was thinking about getting an OCD to replace the TS but I'm not sure. I've had one before. Maybe a Paisley Drive will be the answer.

I'm looking into ALL suggestions right now. Thanks!

Touch sensitive? I'd recommend the Mad Professor Sweet Honey Overdrive. That thing is extremely sensitive and cleans up with the volume knob better than anything else I've heard. Check out the Youtube demos.

+1 on the Paisley Drive. It's a very versatile pedal and I can get close to some of Brad's sounds on my Tele, although I've never really worked out how to do that chicken picken stuff myself.

I also have the Wampler Ego Compressor, which works well with the Paisley to help achieve those country sounds you are after.

Both of those pedals are looking very intriguing. I was also considering the Barber Tone Press but my pedal board real estate is a bit limited.

Visual Sound's Comp 66 is the way to go for compression. A lot of country players use it, including Keith Urban. They also have the Route 66, which is a dual pedal with the compressor on one side and a classic 808 OD circuit on the other. Their compression pedals feature a selectable on/off noise filter, and a tone knob for the compression (if you want it - you can also bypass). So very great stuff, reasonably-priced, with all the needed features and no forced ones.

Overdrive-wise, depends a lot on your guitar/amp.

Delay-wise, it depends a lot on your direction: Analog? Digital? Tape? ...For basic Country work with a delay primarily for soloing or textures, I'd say something small and Analog like MXR's Carbon Copy or Way Huge's Blue Hippo.

Modulation-wise, Catalinbread's Pareidolia could have you covered for esoteric sounds and tremolo-type ambiance at the same time.

I have both the Wampler and the Barber on different boards. Both are excellent: the Wampler is brighter, but has a tone control to compensate, and is smaller if space is an issue. But you can't go far wrong with either.

Pretty much any delay, digital or analog, will get you right where you need to be IF you set it up right. Paisley uses a decent amount of delay in his sound, but the key is that it's set to one repeat.

when i go to my pop/country gig i bring a whole bunch of pedals (mostly because i'm too cheap to have more than one pedal setup) but i could get through it with a tuner, 2 OD/boost pedals, and a good versatile tap tempo delay.(alot of people will say you dont need a tap, just a slap back, but i've found theres alot of songs with rhythmic delay...i'm way into the strymon el cap) everything else is a luxury. the compressor thing to me in country is a bit over rated (most of the stuff you hear nowadays isn't all squashed like the older stuff) , but if you find one you dig go for it!
