Marshall Vintage Modern, good, bad, ok?

Is there anything to watch out for or be aware of with the vintage modern series Marshalls? I like the fact that they are more of a plexi hot rod as I'm not looking for high gain anything, just nice bluesy plexi-ish tones with my 335. A local store has a new floor demo purple 50 watt head and matching 425 angled cab for $1400 out the door, is this too good a deal to pass up? I don't want to buy a pig in a poke but I have always wanted a Marshall and this seems like a good deal.

Awesome amp for what you describe but be aware they really are an amp that needs to be pumped or else you may be disappointed.

I had one and for my purposes it was just too much. I now have the new Marshall AFD100. The power scaling is brilliant.

If the next series of the VM has power scaling then I'll be back on board and get another in addition to the AFD100.

The other thing is if you're a reverb fan then the digital reverb is really going to be up to your personal tase. While I didn't want a cavernous surf reverb, I found it thin and uninspiring.

In short, the KT66's are magic but so long as you can have the volume up, you won't regret it. It's definitely no bedroom amp.

Hmmm....well the room it would live in is 12x20 so it's just a big bedroom. I have a 73 blackfaced Twin Reverb that I can run in there at 4-5 without any trouble so??? I am really looking for a cleanish slightly gainy plexi sound, I figured if I needed more grind I could throw a Tim/Timmy in front of it?? The $1400 price tag seemed like a heck of a deal. The Twin Reverb is really a one trick pony and it's not that great of a tric really, just looking to add another layer.

I have the VM50 watt head with matching cabinet, I paid about $2200.00 when it came out, $1400.00 is a great deal. The cabinet on this maodel is the best part, they used the Hendrix re-issue Celestions that were broken in at the factory. I could see later in life selling the head but hanging onto the cab.

yes, they use the china made version of the g12c-25. apparently it is the same speaker. one has push on tabs, the other has solder on tabs.
