Alesis Midiverb III

I have been hearing a lot of good things about the Alesis Midiverb II, the Midiverb IV and the quadraverb, but not much info about the Midiverb III.

What's your opinion on this machine?

What effect(s) are you hoping to get from it? I bought one (new!!) back in 89 or 90 and I think i still have it somewhere... it was my first rack mount multi.

They kinda suck. Noisy, cold sounding, and underpowered processor-wise. Many other better sounding units out there before going with one of them.

I'll second this above quote.
They are like the fruitcake of used guitar gear.

On a related note, I had a Microverb I a little while back - which I really liked. It wasn't exactly a natural sounding verb, but I really liked the long hall sounds for ambient stuff when playing at home, and the shorter hall sounds for live/rehearsal work. It died after about 6 months and would produce nothing but white noise which would wildly self oscillate and get louder by the second.

I saw a Microverb III up for sale pretty cheap on ebay and grabbed it. It's -just- alright. I've heard a lot worse, but "cold" is a very good description of it. No mojo whatsoever.

You would think that the III would be at least as good, and could even reasonably be expected to be better than the I... most definitely NOT the case.

I don't know how the Microverbs compare to the Midiverbs, but I can only imagine that they use similar processors and algorithms. If this is true, and the Midiverb III was released around the same time as the Microverb III, my advice would be to give it a miss.
