Strat replacement pickups that don't sound like strats?
I'm seriously thinking of getting a Parker P38(fat strat configuration), but swapping out the neck pickup for something a bit more un-strat like. I was thinking of putting a Jaguar pickup in the middle maybe, but I've heard they're pretty much just weaker Strat pickups? They sound more like a Tele to me, which I much prefer.
I like Jazzmasters for the glassy sound and Jaguars for the twangy sound. P90s are pretty good for chime. I find Strat pickups are very "straight forward" and lack texture, I know some will disagree. A bit like with humbuckers you end up playing the sound of your amp and pedals more, whereas with a Tele you always have that distinctive sound even at mid to high gain, same with a Jaguar or Jazzmaster. I don't have a very big budget. I don't want anything "boutique" anyway. I normally buy GFS pickups. The neck pickup in my Tele, the Fatbody, is absolutely beautiful, and does a great "Jangly" sound, but I don't want to replicate it since I already have that sound - however something more along those lines, a little less boomy(it has excessive low end, one of it's down points) maybe a tiny bit more mid heavy, would be great. http://www.box.net/shared/mrpfsn7jaf There's an almost slight acoutic quality. The P38 has an actual blendable Piezo, so that might help get a more interesting sound in of itself. |

What about a Lace Sensor? The purple sounds the most interesting but can't find any clips.

The Fralin Steele Poled 42 have some of the characteristics of a P-90. The Fralin Steele Poled 43 have the output of a P-90.
