Do you have a music-related pet peeve?

Just curious.

OK, I'll start...

My peeve is people who refer to musicians that they don't personally know, by their first name - prime offenders: "Jerry;" "Miles:" "Jimi."

Nothing terribly important, just a peeve!

Please share!

Well, I just committed this sin in the "Gibson to Fender" thread. I do however consider Jimi to be a close personal friend.

Drummers who call themselves drummers that aren't as good as me on the drums although I don't consider myself a drummer.

When people describe a Strat's tone using either "Jimi" or "SRV." Believe it or not, there are others who have played Stratocasters.

Guitarists whose rigs look like this: Cool guitar > MULTI-FX UNIT > Cool amp. They usually then proceed to only use the amp's clean channel and use the multi-fx unit for their "tones". I have yet to hear something even remotely as good as just plugging the guitar into the amp coming from such guys. It's as if the guitars and amps are just cool-looking props.

Younger players whose rich daddy buys them expensive/classy instruments. Just had a guy like this in the studio a while back. His dad paid for his band's EP and bought him a USA Standard Jazz Bass especially for the recording. Sounds like he'd been playing for 2 weeks. I assume the band hired him because of said daddy's bank account.

Stuff that 'supposedly' affects the sound of a guitar to make it 'better'. Guitarists are the ultimate practitioners of human self-deception. We buy into a lot of crap.

+1. Or when singer invites another guitar player to rehearsal/jam/sit in and they spew generic blues noodling over top of everything because they don't know the song. I really enjoy playing rhythm, but not doing it all night behind some wanker who thinks he's a "lead" player.
