Why Can't I bond w/ my Tele??

I love the Tele sound. Always have. Never owned one. Just bought one about 45 days ago.

I can't seem to love it. My Les Paul and McCarty both just clicked with me. Loved them instantly.

Now I'm gonna sell it.

It sounds great it's a very nice American Standard in Crimson Red... Why don't I love it?

Great neck. Sounds great with my rig.

I'm baffled. This sucks.

It's because you're in love with an idea, not a guitar.

maybe because you're still too in love with your humbucker sound?

i've had two PRS humbucker guitars as my only guitars for a long time. i finally bought a new American Standard Tele a few months ago. i love it, but it is definitely different. i realize though that i wanted something completely different. it is so easy to play and fun to mess around with, but it ain't no humbucker guitar. i played my PRS for the first time in a while and it was amazingly different.

I'm the opposite. Have tried different things, gone Gibby scale with humbuckers.
I split the coils on every humbucker guitar I have had. I WANT to like them, but...

Good that you tried. Many people aren't as open-minded. Maybe in time you'll pick up another Tele and it will click.

Maybe if you had a fat Tele you'd feel different?

Yes I know the feeling. I want to like Pauls and Paul Reeds but just can't. I am a single coil guy and that is the tone I am attracted to. They are both great instruments but in the end it is a Tele or a Strat.

I guess I've spent too long with archtops and Gibson styles.
As much as I want to love teles, every one I play just feels wrong.
Sigh. You're not alone.

Maybe because you haven't found the right one? I mean, Strats and I haven't gotten along for decades. Then bingo, the right one "clicked' and now it's occupado. Funny how that works.

That said, I REALLY want to make a Ric 360 or 330 12-string work for me, but I physically can't deal with that neck! Argh!

I'm the same way with Les Pauls... love the look, love the sound... I've bought and sold Customs, Standards, Studios over the years... I wanna like 'em, but I just can't bond. I think it's the shorty scale length.

Have you tried one of the Super Teles out there like a Tom Anderson, Suhr, Schecter, Melancon.. etc? You might like one of those better than a Straight up "tele" tele...
