Arpeggiator pedals.... NOT random sequencing...
K.. so I'm looking for an arpeggiator pedal - NOT a sequencer (i.e. Robotalk, Subdecay Prometheus/Proteus/Quasar DLX)... I want a pedal that actually plays back an arpeggio and that can be programmed to do minor keys as well as major keys - different intervals would be nice as well.
Does the Pitchfactor give me these capabilities? If so, I'm game...

Yep, very few options and this is the only one I can think of that does what you want.

Or you could look for a M-audio Blackbox, which is basically an Adrenalinn in a different package.

Didn't know about this one. It looks like a SatNav.

It does. And it would be a PITA to use in a live setting. But it gives you many of the sounds of an Adrenalinn, like John Mayer's "Heartbreak Warfare"; it even has a "JM" preset, which refers to one of his older songs I believe.

Pitchfactor can do that stuff on the harpeggiator setting i believe, two seperate arpeggiators in parallel
Complex/expensive box though, had it for months and am still just scratching the surface

Here is a video on how the arpeggiator is programmed. The Adrenalinn III does a whole bunch of other cool stuff as well but this is what you asked for:

as andrew (dica3) stated above, the pitchfactor can do it, and actually generate some extremely complex patterns besides ascending/descending triads, including glissandi as it moves through the arpeggio. In fact, it takes some work to get a "basic" sounding arpeggiated sequence. When you combine the pitch patterns with the "rhythm sequencer" which basically runs through a sequence of volume steps, a seemingly different arpeggio emerges. And then you mix A and B settings and you get something pretty crazy. The middle footswitch allows you to restart the sequence for some stuttering/"broken needle" dj/dance-music sounds.
I tried using it myself in a couple of cover band situation in which an arpeggiated synth part was needed (Justin Timberlake's "My Love" in particular). Without a click for the drummer, it proved very difficult to pull off. Where as a rhythmic delay or traditional modulation effect requires you to be accurate and correct to say quarters or eighths, the arpeggiated patterns required everyone lock into full measures and correct back to the specific beat within the measure (as opposed to correcting to whatever the nearest beat was believed to be). No different than having a whole band play along to a rhythmic loop. In some ways, I don't know if they expected guitarists in particular to use the Harpeggiator during live performance, seems much more like a general purpose studio effect. joe all that said |

The PitchFactor does have an almost unlimited number of arpeggios (27 for each voice works out to 729 different compinations) You cannot, however, program your own. You have to try and find one of the preprogrammed ones you like. The manual suggests you start of with voice A before you add in voice B and the rhythm sequences.
I love the PitchFactor. It has opened up a whole new world of possibilities for me. I first purchased it for the intelligent pitch shifting for my home studio projects but am amazed with the other effects. I suspect, though, that if you want to program your own arpeggios you would have to go with a biggger Eventide or an Axe-FXII. |
