BSM Treble Boosters

Hi,

I've been looking at the products from Bernd for quite a while now, and have narrowed to these 3 for now: HS-C, OR and MKII

I had great conversations with Bernd but can't really decide which one(s) to go for

has anyone compared some of these ?

I was thinking about the HS-C for that kind of Blackmore great punchy sound , and one of the other two for a sweeter and less "heavy" tone...

I had a HS really pounds the amp, sounded great with my strat and Victoria deluxe, but with the tele it was too middy. The overdrive is special, just use the volume knob on the guitar and your done. The only reason I sold it was to get more versatility. I now have the OR. It doesn't have near the same boost, I think it's 9 db's instaed of 12. The best thing with the OR is the tone control, now I can use any amp or guitar and it will sound great. The OR doesn't beat the amp into submission the way the HS did, this would be the only downside with the OR and the HS is quieter. The OR has a little hiss, not as much as most everything else out there though. I really like the BSM stuff but the Keeley is also very nice (lots of variability) but it might not be quite as happening, at least to me.

that would confirm what I was thinking about first, get the HS-C for the heavier stuff (was planing to use it mostly with my strat, so that could be it ) and get either the MKII or the OR for more "quiet" things

so in the end that would mostly be the question "OR or MKII ?"

I use the OR.

The tone control actually makes for a very versatile unit that works great with Tele, Strat and Paul.

My HS-C should be here by Wednesday so I'll be able to tell you some more then...

I've had a few Rangemaster types (Java Boost, AM Beano Boost, /13 Dyna Ranger) that I end up liking on the mid boost setting the most and so I'm looking forward to hearing the HS-C. I asked Bernd what he recommends for a singing lead tone with pleasnat highs and a tight bass that should work with Tele, Firebird and Les Paul and he said definitely go dor the HS-C.

I have a BSM HS-C and use it with my 73 Marshall 50 W head, my 73 Strats and it's Blackmore-land. It also sounds HUGE with my Firebird. I played my last two gigs with just that set-up, and the amp controlled with a HotPlate. Didn't miss anything else.
You have a volume pot on the HS-C, in case you want to keep things quieter.

So how is the noise level on this - I heard it's quiter than some of his other boosters...

Chrissy - it's noisier than most dirt-pedals (except Fuzzes), but you can switch it off between songs, and when playing you don't notice anything. No big issue, for me, even with a Strat through a Marshall at 7, which is already noisier than other stuff

I am pleased with my BM-Q. I am probably one of the very few who bought one who did not have Brian May in mind.

I have an OR. I have been using it for 4 years. I have a LP Historic and a Bogner Shiva and the OR really brings out the best in the guitar/amp combo.
