Bass thru 112 Guitar Combo

I'm a guitar player who recently acquired and modded a nice SX short scale bass. I don't have a separate bass amp, so I've been playing it through an Omega-modded Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. Obviously I'm not getting the best possible sound, but it's good enough for me for the moment (though low E string notes sound muddy). My concern is whether this kind of setup could harm the amp. Any advice/insight?

it won't harm the amp, but could toast the speaker if you try to keep up with even a quiet drummer.

Thanks. I'm just playing in my basement, pretty quietly. My "drums" are loops going through pretty small speakers.

I'm thinking though, that I might pick up the Acoustic B20 1X12 Bass Combo. Gets great reviews on Musician's Friend and it's only $149.

I found out the hard way that even low volume can toast a speaker. I was playing super-low sub-bedroom level volume through a 4x12 and wrecked one of the 12s.

yup, it's all about the speakers. I use a kbd amp with a 15 at church atm for my 5 string w/no probs. I have also used tube guitar heads with bass cabs to good result.

Thanks guys. Well, I'll just have to explain to the wife that I "must" get a new piece of gear in order to protect the investment I've already made in other gear. This strategy has real possibilities. . . . Sort of like "now that I have a new purse, I've got to get shoes that match, otherwise I can't use it and the money I spent on it is wasted."

But seriously, anyone had any experience with the Acoustic bass combo mentioned above? It's got almost nothing but raves on Musician's Friend. All positive on Harmony Central too.

If you mean B200, it's a great little amp. Well, I have used the head...

CharlyG:

The B20 is the little brother of the B200. Seems like it's the same amp with a 12 inch speaker. Here 'tis:

Thanks for the recommendation.

The B200 is 200 watts and perfect for small-med gigs. The B20 should be fine for your basement. I used a 60 watt Fender with a 12 for a while at small jam sessions and it worked great.
