boosting a catalinbread formula #5

Looking for a pedal to place before my FN5 in the chain to boost it for more gain, more sustain, and a slight eq shift to make it cut through a mix better but not be cutting in a harsh kind of way. Basically, I want something to make it sing for leads and heavier parts. I tried running a clean boost into it but it didnt really react how I would like. Suggestions?

btw, it should also be dynamic and sensitive to the volume knob. thats one of the things I love about the FN5 and dont want to lose that quality even when boosting for leads

when I was using my FN5 I normally would boost it with an EP Booster, I liked that combo, I haven't used the FN5 for a really long time so I can't tell for sure if it does everything you're looking for.

I like a Fulldrive 2 with the FN5, they compliment each other nicely.

Sounds like controlling (cutting) some bass while boosting the FN5 is what you'll want to do. A clean boost by definition will push all frequencies through, including the lows you no longer need in order to get more gain with cut and sustain. I really like using a rangemastery treble boost object, like the Naga Viper to do this. Today I was doing something like this with my 5E3. Only thing I had handy was a tubescreamer which cuts and focuses the bass and pushed the amp harder, unfortunately this killed my guitar's volume rolloff cleanup. Ideally, if I had a Naga Viper readily available I would have used this to keep my guitar volume cleanup intact. I'd do the same thing with an FN5 into my Super Reverb if I were looking for that same sound/feel only LOUDER.

Sorry to read all spammy... But the thing you want to do is control your lowend boosting in.

Won't do much in the way of cutting low end, but the new Joe Bonamassa fuzz face sounds f'ing mighty into my Fn5. I also like the Mojo Hand Huckleberry into the Fn5 since the "juice" control really allows you to control the thickness and bass into an already distorted amp (or amp in a box).

But for me, the Bonamassa fuzz face is the current all time favorite into the Formula --- and of course, volume knob sensitivity is maintained.

I really love the Formula 5 going into the Dirty Little Secret. I use the DLS to boost the FN5, I just use it in reverse order from what you described. I tried it both ways and the order I'm using works better for my needs.
