philosopher's tone as a traditional compressor, funk/country?

Hey all, wondering if the phil can be dialed in for a more traditional country/funk/soul compression, everyone always talks about the never-ending sustaine, but I wondered if this is all the pedal is working for?
Thanks in advance,
Kurt

I just got mine and so far it is a really transparent compressor. I don't think you can really get the squish you need for country/funk/soul. A good Ross clone would probably be better, like the Keeley.

Interesting, how well does the tone knob darken it up? Thanks,

It is more of a treble knob. You can turn it down to get it pretty dark. Works great for my Strat.
