Good idea? (power chord content)

I use a blues junior for everything. It's in an ATA case and I play it 6 days a week in at least 3 different places. My only issue with the amp is the "vintage style" chord that comes out of the back of the amp. I'd much prefer to be able to unplug the chord from the back of the amp instead of tucking the chord into the amp. Is it a bad idea to cut a small hole in the back of the amp, install an AC power jack, and use a regular AC chord (like what you would use to power a PP2+, or anything at that matter). My concern would be making the amp noisy, though I'm confident in my welding skills.

Do a good job and enjoy it will be fine. I would recomend a good quality recepticel with all the in and out but you wont have noise if done properly.

I think amps sound better when the power chords come out the front.

Sorry

The official term for one of those is an IEC cord. Noise shouldn't be a problem if you're going to place the new cord and receptacle in the same area as the old cord.

Cord... not chord.

Based on clues in the post, I'd urge you to consider having someone else perform this work - if you still feel a need to make the change to IEC power cable. There shouldn't be any noise added, if done properly.

Ive done this to countless pieces of gear. One of the best mods, attached cords always get in the way.

Here is one of the first amps I cut the cord on. Peavey Ultra Plus:

The sockets are cheap and easy to install. Just dremel the hole, screw it in, and wire it up.

Don't do it yourself unless you know how and are capable to do it safely. I.e. so as not to cause electrocution and/or a house fire.

Sorry, I was in a hurry when I wrote this. Guess that's the first time that's ever happened on the internet.

I am comfortable soldering, I just wanted to make sure that doing this particular mod wouldn't add amp noise regardless of my work. I'll post pics when I do it.

Tongue-in-cheek, my friend

However, if you do happen to weld your amp, please video and post on YouTube.

We should document this.

I dunno man, I freakin hate those IEC cables. Its just one more thing to lose or forget at home. And people always jack those things from ya. I am looking to do the opposite mod on my stuff!

It would be simpler to add an inline power jack to the existing cable about 8 inches from the amp. Then you can tuck that short cable down into the cabinet rather than a long bulky one.

can you explain more about the inline power jack? what I plan on doing is running the cable there to the IEC jack, just cutting off all but about 6 inches of it. The jack won't actually be on the chassis, but on the back panel of the cabinet, with the stock power cable running to it (shortened)
