Eventide Eclipse vs. 4 'Factors?
Considering the price is about the same to either buy the Eventide Eclipse or the four separate TimeFactor, ModFactor, PitchFactor, and Space pedals, which do you think is a better?
The benefit of the Eclipse is there are more algorithms, but on the downside you can only run two algorithms at once, and I've heard it's not guitar friendly. The benefit of the four individual pedals is that you can have four simultaneous effects (though you rarely would do that) and they are much more guitar friendly, but on the downside they take up a lot of space and don't have as many algorithms. I've owned all four of the Factor pedals, though I sold the TimeFactor since I prefer the Strymon Timeline and I sold the PitchFactor, though I'm considering getting one again. It would be great it Eventide has a floor-based multi-effects pedal that included the algorithms of the Eclipse and all the Factor pedals, and gave you three simultaneous effects. Thoughts? Mark |

Here is a bump because I am considering getting an Eclipse to put in my amps effects loop so I too am interested in hearing about experiences using Eclipse for guitar...

I've been wondering about the same thing. I came from rack units, got into pedals over the past few years, but thinking about selling all but a few key pedals to go back to rack gear. My next pedal would be a Pitchfactor. I could sell all but the key pedals, replace others with an Eclipse, and have money left over.
I just looked over the manual for the Eclipse 4.0.1. While it lists "shifters" and "verbs" in the manual, it explicitly refers to "TimeFactor™ Algorithms" and "ModFactor™ Algorithms" by name. There is no mention of the PitchFactor or Space algorithms. Does the Eclipse actually contain those algorithms? |

It does not have the Space algorithms (it has much more complex and gorgeous reverb and atmosphere algorithms and presets) and it has much better and more complex pitch algorithms. I have an Eclipse v4.01 with Italo DeAngelis' amazing preset collection-it is being installed in my L.A. Sound Design big rack and it is uncomparable-I would definitely get the Eclipse over the Factor pedals. Keep in mind that the Eclipse really shines best at line level with balanced connections (XLR) and in a parallel loop where the Eclipse is running 100% wet.
