There are a few things against them, but still one of my favorite setups.

Tradition-Leo's teles were all single coil.
Can't use a full size humbucker in a 3-saddle bridge very easily.
Tele neck pickups are often too weak to pair well with a humbucker.
Many people consider the tele bridge pickup to be the tele sound.

As for the sound, most of these have a video, so click the pics!

And don't forget Bill Frisells awesome tele!

An accurate statement. The current owners of the Fender name are the only ones who can label a guitar anything else.

I think the configuration kinda looks odd, but I'm currently building a modern Tele variant with a Lace Hemi in the bridge position and a Chrome Dome in the neck. (The Chrome Dome is actually a Strat-sized pickup.) Looks aside, I favor the sound of this configuration versus the other way 'round, but then I prefer modern music and not so much twang. I'm also using a wraparound bridge, which strays pretty far from the formula....

This has Fralins that were wound and balanced together. They work great as a pair and seperate.

+1 Yeah, maybe I take back what I said about looks. That is a stunner, and the 'bucker somehow looks balanced with those block inlays. The binding is icing on the cake. Bravo!

Thank you brother, she's had a little makeover - custom made 20 year old brazilain 1/4 sawn rosewood neck with clay inlays. This brazilian rosewood is so black it looks like ebony and sounds amazing - Man, I love guitars!

The white Tele Thinline has a Lace Sensor Gold in the neck and Duncan Little 59 humbucker in the bridge with a push-pull for series/parallel switching:
