TC Electronic Flashback....

....just got one. Overall, great, butthe 'strum tempo' thing....if I'd really thought it through, I wouldn't have made it my first choice of delay. What if you're expected to come in on beat one, bar one, and your drummer decides to increase the tempo a little?

TC: tap tempo is popular because it works. It's nice to try different things, but if there was ever a case of 'if it ain't broke'....

Yeah, I didn't like the strum-tempo either. I was hoping for a toneprint that was so mushy and ambient that I wouldn't "need" tap tempo (ya know, DMM, Skreddy Echo.....I never felt like they needed tap tempo), but as it is, the toneprints are just not enough for me and the delay is a little to clean. It does the clean stuff better than anything else on the market, no doubt, but I gues that's another reason to neep tap tempo..... anyway...

I don't think they had room on the Flashback for a button for the Tap Tempo. I would have preferred that the flashback have a tap tempo too or a jack to adding a extension box that would work as a tap tempo.

That's one thing I like about my Nova Repeater, it has tap tempo and strum tempo. No 2290 or tone print though

have one in the mail - I've never used tap tempo so I'm excited about at least having an option to set tempo!

Does the 'strum tempo' work with the gtr volume rolled off?

The Tone Print thing is great. I really like the Audley Freed one - I think it's my favourite out of all of them.

When I play with rhythmic delay but the drummer strays...well, that's on them. Tap tempo, strum tempo, set to the millisecond, whatever: the delay keeps the tempo, not the drummer. Not at all being jerky, but if the drummer clicks a tempo but then starts the song at a different one, my issue isn't going to be strum tempo vs. tap tempo capability. I guess I prefer strum tempo over tap, but because I trust my strumming arm rhtyhm on the strings playing the actual part more that I trust my wayward feet. I don't play drums for a reason. But once the tempo is set, it's set. I'm no going to tap to change it, either. If the drummer can't lock in or just arbitrarily decides to change it, why should I? It would sooner change drummers if it really is an issue.

When I think "rolled off", it's turned down- but not all the way. If you meant with the guitar's volume at any lever higher than zero, yes, the Flashback will catch it and faithfully match your strum.

I wonder if they could add a remote tap tempo or even channel switch that could connect to the USB...that would be sweet.

Yes, that's been my experience. Really really low guitar volume still works if I strum hard.

It mutes the output when the "strum tempo" mode is engaged.

Yes it does, which is a drag. I'm pretty sure it mutes any trailing repeats, which is also a drag. If you want to adjust on the fly, you need to find a part in the song where you don't play for a little while. Unlike other delays I've played, the Flashback repeats don't walk all over my playing, so it doesn't really bother me too much if it's a little off. For our tunes where I start playing on the first beat, I step on the switch, wait for our drummer to count out the tempo with his sticks, strum along, take my foot off, and start playing.
