eBay Experts: Question for You

What do you do when, in an auction, you:

1. Limit the geographical area for bidders to the USA when you create the listing; and

2. You also state in the auction that bidders must be in the USA and you won't ship overseas.

And then the winning bidder lives in Europe. What do you do?

Isn't eBay supposed to prevent such bidders from placing a bid? The geographical restriction was in the listing.

Thanks.

Yeah. I think I won't sell there anymore. Too much hassle. Anybody know what I do next, though?

Not an expert, but neither is carrots. They will not block that bid IIRC. You can contact the highest US bidder and ask if they will honor that bid. Contact Ebay for details. Hope it all works out.

When you list you can block overseas buyers. Scroll down and click on "change buyer requirements".

axelicker is correct. Its one of the last options to select before launching the auction.

Issue a refund and notify ebay that the buyer did not meet your location requirement..

That's what I did when I set the auction up. That's why I'm confused. He hasn't paid yet but is asking to do so.

I have seen folks from outside the US set themselves up on eBay as US residents in order to get around the bidding restrictions. Point out to the winner that your auction clearly states that you won't ship outside the US, report him to eBay and quickly use eBay's Second Chance function to offer it to the highest US bidder (the true winner) for their bid price.

I've traded messages with the bidder and it seems that he is agreeing to cancel his winning bid. We will see.

Thanks for the input.
