Recommend Practice Amps that will be decent with a Pedal Board

Hello TGP nerds,

I was wondering if you could recommend some cheap practice amps (under 150$) that would sound decent with a pedalboard. I don't need anything too fancy, its just for jamming in my apartment. My fender twin is too loud for this place !

Anyone have the Fender Mustang I or the Kustom 12s?

I have a Mustang I and a Vox Pathfinder 15R and I definitely prefer the Pathfinder as a platform for pedals, warmer/fuller sounding than the Mustang. The Vox is a simple amp though and not a modeler w/ lots of fx like the Mustang. The Mustang is good for quick plug in/play jams when I don't want to drag my pedals out, but the Pathfinder w/ pedals sounds better IMO. I have a 70's Vibro Champ that I use for the same application as the Pathfinder, but they're obviously a lot more pricey. There are some examples of all three amps with pedals in my youtube link.

Almost forgot about the pathfinder!! Thanks! Im going to check out your videos. Just a question though, do you find using dirt with it allright?

I really want a Vibro or maybe even a hot rod to practice with, but I don't really need it haha.

best bang for your buck would be any of the vox valvetronix amps.

you can even find older models used inexpensively

also, the fender solid state amps take to pedals really well, too

I had an older Vox Valvetronix amp that took dirt pedals really well, but I had to tweak it a lot to find the sweet spots. I also had a solid state Fender Stage 185 that really hated dirt pedals. The Super Champ XD however, does pretty well w/ pedals.

Maybe a Fender Vibro Champ XD on the clean mode? I think those are around 150.

If you get the Super Champ XD you can also use it to jam in small places. Mine keeps up with a moderately loud drummer - if you don't mind your clean sound being a bit dirty when you dig in!

If you want a cheaper route. there are a lot of older solid state Fenders that sell for next to nothing and would be perfect for what you want IMO.

Epiphone Valve Jr. Head. Experiment with the Preamp tube, and with the Cabinet and Speaker used.

The first 3 are always ON for Dirt, and I use the Sovereign as a Solo Boost.

PEAVEY BANDIT!!!!!!!!! by far one of the greatest amps ever. They're cheap, sound pretty good at low volume and there you go.

How much is VHT Special 6?
If it's under Your budget, You have a winner
It's a very nice pedal platform.
