School me on LP Standards

What are your views on the Les Paul Standard models with the Plekked necks, Grover locking keys, chambered bodies and Burstbucker Pro Alnico pups? Are they worth the $2499 price tag?

Thanks for opinions.

For that kind of money, you can get an awesome used Historic. That is what I would do with $2500.

Bigtime. My R9 was the BEST guitar related purchase I've made in my life. You will not look back.. Definitely worth the cost.

I personally liked the standards from around 5 years ago with chambers and burst buckers, but I hate the newest standards. The tuners alone just have a bad look to them. I've never heard anything bad about Plekking (the worst I heard was that it made no difference compared to a typical neck).

Worth it to me. Bought a new Standard Plus top for a good bit less than retail with some negotiation

No, u can find mint condition used guitars from higher range and quality for that price range. If u really want a standard I would get one from pre 2005 as they still had 1 pc bodies back then and better qc. U can find used histories or lp customs for less then 2500. Used early 90's lp classics can be found much less and are killer guitars.

Or save a grand and get a traditional. Pretty much the same thing as a pre-2008 standard with the addition of a pleked neck and speed knobs. Used traditionals show up in the emporium regularly in the 1400-1600 price range. Great guitars for the money. I'm loving mine right now.

Simply superb.
Grover locking tuners - brilliant. String changes made a lot easier. Holds tuning as well if not better than standard tuners.
Locking bridge & tailpiece - why weren't Gibson doing this decades ago...?
Chambered body - no problem whatsoever with that.
Asymetrical neck - great feel to it and wonderful to play.
Burstbucker pups - superb clarity, whether clean or overdriven.
Neutrik jack socket - good idea for those who leap around like loonies and are in danger of yanking the guitar lead out of their guitar.
Finish quality is first class, no complaints here.

My '91 LP Custom was my No. 1 guitar for 16 years. Not any more. My 2009 '08 Standard has replaced it in pole position.

Always took candy from strangers, didn't want to get me no trade.

I prefer the Trad Pro myself. And less money, too.

I'm in a similar position (trying decide between a Standard or a Custom Shop VOS 60RI). I have always been a Fender man, always. Never looked or thought twice about an LP, but something has come over me the past couple of months. I guess after my last tour I just decided that I couldn't get anything else out of my Telecaster.

So, I went to a few shops and tried out some new plek'd LP Standards. They didn't feel very good at all, very light, and actually rather cheap feeling. My only frame of reference is an early 70s Goldtop a friend of mine had, which of course is about 10x heavier than this.

I need to do some more feeling around I guess, I know I NEED to have an LP, but the standards aren't cutting it. Consequently, I found a Custom Shop Historic VOS RI60 in a beautiful finish for the exact price as a new Standard (and without the tax!). Seems like an easy decision but I really do tour a lot and I'm not sure if I'm cool with bring a guitar valued at $3500+ on tour.

I've got one. I think half way through that year Gibson switched specs from '07 to '08, so my '08 LP actually has '07 features.

That's my favorite guitar. Lightweight desert burst (is chambered). Might not have the sound of a non-chambered, but it sounds wonderfully woody. Very "comfortable" to play.

I have a January 08 model. Had I known they where gonna do all those upgrades I would have waited but I still got a good one. Love my standard. I did a bunch of mods and turned her into my Jimmy Page guitar. Nothing wrong with a Standard and it compares very well to my R8. For some reason my Standard gets more gig time than my R8. Don't believe the Historic hype and think a standard is a lesser guitar.
